The Application Advantage: Navigating the Common App & Developing Standout College Application Materials In-Person

Getting ready for college applications at the start of summer break and not sure where to begin? Join Dr. Susan Knox of Your Edvantage (YourEdvantage.com) for a hands-on, 90-minute workshop designed to walk both students and parents through the college application process with clarity and confidence. This session will break down the Common App—one of the platforms that students can use to apply to over 1,000 colleges and universities—including personal information, activity sections, and the all-important essays. Engaging activities during the session will help students shape a compelling resume and craft standout narratives. Whether you're navigating the platform for the first time or polishing your final drafts, this workshop will provide actionable strategies to reduce stress and build momentum. Parents will also gain insights on how to provide support without taking over— making this a must-attend event for families working through the application season together.

Learning Goals:

• Develop comfort with the Common App platform

• Distinguish between the activities section on the Common App and a resume

• Use the Naviance platform as a basis for resume development

• Identify personal success stories to incorporate into personal statements

• Use stress and anxiety management tools to manage applications

This program will be presented by Dr. Susan Knox, co-founder and current CEO of Your Edvantage. Susan has hosted career development workshops for over 250 individuals of Fortune 500 leadership development programs, non-profit independent scientific institutes, and corporate teams. She has coached 45+ individuals through various career stages, resulting in acceptances into top-choice undergraduate and graduate programs, summer research experiences, and employment offers. Within the local community, Susan has worked one-on-one with Lower Moreland students, guiding students through their college applications.

For students entering grades 9-12 and/or their parents and guardians.
